Commodore 64

Siamo nella terza età dell’oro dei videogiochi che viene compresa in quasi un decennio dal 1980 al 1990, nel quale emerge una straordinaria evoluzione dell’era Video games / Computers.
In quegli anni erano sempre più presenti nelle case di tutti computers come l’ ATARI 800 (il famoso Atari con cui si faceva musica) e il l’ancor più famoso Apple II (il computer che cambiò la storia), veri e propri computers che aiutavano nel quotidiano, al lavoro e nello svago di tutti i giorni, ma arrivò un concorrente, più piccolo, più potente, e soprattutto meno costoso… Nel 1982 negli stati uniti compare sugli scaffali dei negozi il Commodore 64 con ben 64Kbyte di memoria RAM, se pensiamo che l’Atari 800 aveva solo 8Kbyte e l’Apple II 48Kb, non ci volle molto che il Commodore 64 diventò il maggior concorrente nella Storica ATARI e la praticamente appena nata Apple oggi colosso tra altri dell’industria tecnologica.

[/vc_column_text][special_heading title=”6 Giugno 1982″ subtitle=”Compare il Commodore 64″ margin_bottom=”15″][vc_column_text]A quel tempo i computers si potevano comprare solo nei negozi e rivenditori di computer e tecnologia informatica del tempo, mai nessuno avrebbe pensato di poter comprare un computer in un supermercato o in un negozio di giocattoli, per non parlare dei centri commerciali, ecco dov’è stata la genialità di Jack Tramiel fondatore della holding Commodore Computers nel 1953, il commodore 64 non fu il suo primo progetto, infatti il suo predecessore VIC-20 fu anch’esso un successo, ma focalizziamoci sul Commodore 64.

In molti lo ricordano come una console game, ma in realtà era un computer a tutti gli effetti, ci si poteva programmare con il linguaggio BASIC come sui suoi concorrenti, ci si poteva fare musica e giocare come su una vera console con tanto di Joystick, l’idea vincente furono le periferiche come su tutti computer dell’epoca si poteva installare il lettore esterno di FloppyDisk da 8″ ma anche un lettore particolare, quello delle cassette… si le famose audio cassette, molto più diffuse dei Floppy da 8″ e molto meno costose, in più l’interfaccia audio permetteva di produrre musica registrandola direttamente su cassetta e riascoltabile su qualsiasi mangia nastri immediatamente, fu un successo incredibile, il Commodore 64 permetteva di fare tutto, era più potente dell’ Apple II e l’ Atari 800 e costava meno, aveva molteplici periferiche e ci si poteva giocare come una qualsiasi console a ben 64Kb (l’Atari 2600 era una console a 128 byte).[/vc_column_text][vc_text_separator title=”BISOGNA SAPERSI EVOLVERE” color=”sky”][vc_column_text]L’evoluzione dei computers se per noi è frenetica in quegli anni era impossibile stargli dietro, scelte di marketing sbagliate e “fossilizzazione” dell’operato fecero fallire la Commodore Computers.

Nonostante all’inizio degli anni ’90 la società stesse lavorando a nuovi progetti, come il Commodore 65, nell’aprile del 1994, Commodore International Ltd. fallisce a causa di errate scelte di gestione effettuate dal gruppo dirigenziale volte alla massimizzazione dei profitti mediante la produzione di componentistica di scarso pregio e ad errori di marketing nella commercializzazione dei propri prodotti.

La dirigenza della Commodore richiede inizialmente l’amministrazione controllata, secondo il “Chapter 11” dello US code che regola la bancarotta, tuttavia alla fine del periodo di amministrazione controllata, si optò per la chiusura, dismissione e vendita di tutti gli asset immobiliari, finanziari e intellettuali. Dopo essere stata messa in liquidazione, i beni e le proprietà intellettuali della società e di alcune sue consociate (come la Commodore Amiga Inc., detentrice delle proprietà intellettuali della piattaforma Amiga) vennero acquistate nell’aprile del 1995 dalla tedesca Escom per 12 milioni di dollari. Dopo il fallimento di quest’ultima nel 1996, la società venne rilevata dalla Gateway.
